We first camped where the Twin Otter dropped us off, and stayed there for a while. There were many close research sites and our work was slow at first as we were figuring out efficient ways to complete our research. The first time we moved camp, we canoed from the west end of Jolly lake to the east end. While Jolly Lake was the smallest lake on our route, it is still a large body of water. The day turned out to be absolutely beautiful and we canoed about 20km on the calmest water I’ve ever seen on a big lake. We even had a mosquito-free lunch on a small, rocky island. Not all of our lake paddling days were this idyllic…more updates coming soon.
